Woman Foundation, an organization working for the rights of women in Pakistan has said that at least eight thousand incidents of violation against women were reported in 2010.
The foundation released its report of 2010, in which it has
disclosed that eight thousand incidents of violence were reported in
2010 and Punjab was top of the list in the report.
According to WF report, in Punjab 5492, in Sindh 1652, in KPK 650
and in Balochistan 79 incidents of violence against women were
reported; meanwhile in federal capital 127 cases of violence against
women were registered.
According to report, during 2010 at least 2236 women were kidnapped,
1436 were killed and 557 were slaughtered on the name of honor. Report
further stated that in last year, 928 women were raped, 633 committed
suicides and 32 women were victimized through throwing acid on them
According to sources, Dr. Rakhshanda Parveen has disclosed that
while collecting information from media and police stations, she faced
many problems; she also faced political hindrances in some areas of
Pakistan.
She added that the society is so violent because of different
reasons; which include poverty, unemployment and the degrading position
of women in society. SANA
