PML-Likeminded announces schedule for party general polls 2011

ISLAMABAD: President PML-Likeminded Senator Salim Saifullah Khan announced Schedule of Party General Elections 2011 according to which District wise elections could be completed till July 30, 2011, Provincial elections till September 15, 2011 and Central party elections could be completed till September 30, 2011.

Pakistan Muslim League Central Organizing Committee (COC) meeting was held in PML House chaired by President PML Senator Salim Saifullah Khan. It was attended by Chief Organizer Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshe, Secretary Organizing Committee Mohammad Iqbal Dar, Central Vice President Faqir Hussain Bukhari, Additional Secretary General Mohammad Ayub Khan Khattak, Deputy Secretary Information Col (R) Khalid Munir, Deputy Secretary Organizing Ajab Gul Surani and other senior leaders of the party.
In the meeting it was discussed that according to the Constitution of the party, the party elections from gross root to provincial and central levels were to be held in 2010 as decided by PML Central General Council meeting held on August 20, 2009 at Islamabad. Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshe in a meeting highlighted that the party elections which were to be held in 2010, were postponed due to heavy flood and deteriorating law and order situation in the country. In COC, meeting President PML Senator Salim Saifullah Khan announced Schedule of Party General Elections 2011 according to which District wise elections could be completed till July 30, 2011, Provincial elections till September 15, 2011 and Central party elections could be completed till September 30, 2011. As required by the Constitution of the party, Salim Saifullah Khan has directed provincial and central organizations to appoint election commissions and arranged all requirements to carry out Party General Elections on time. He said that our party has strong faith to promote democratic culture not only in the country but also with in the party. He while criticizing 19th Amendment said that abolition of Article 17 (4) from the Constitution of Pakistan which made it mandatory to hold elections with in the political parties, has curtailed promotion of democracy with in the party and enhanced dynastic politics. He has further said that abolition of 17(4) would promote dynastic politics in Pakistan and democracy would never be furnished. He highlighted that PML-LM was the only party who strongly opposed the abolition of said Articles and inclusion of some other non-democratic clauses in parliament.
