WASHINGTON: The FBI arrested a Virginia man namely of Ghulam Nabi
Fai Tuesday, accusing him of getting money from Pakistan’s spy agency
and lobbying for the Pakistani government inside the United States, a
federal law enforcement official said.
According to the media
reports, Syed Fai in Fairfax was arrested on charges of being an
unregistered agent of a foreign government. Ghulam Nabi Fai is the
executive director of the Kashmiri American Foundation, which India has
viewed for many years as a front for the Pakistani government.
Though
the charges are not related to espionage, the arrest adds new strain to
the already difficult relationship between the U.S. and Pakistan, which
suffered after the U.S. found Osama bin Laden hiding inside Pakistan
and killed him without telling the government there. The Pakistani spy
agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence, has a complicated relationship
with U.S. intelligence. The agency is a crucial ally in the war on
terrorism.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing and court documents have not been released. Online
