DG FIA has defied orders of court: Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) while attaching return of Zafar Qureshi to investigation into NICL corruption case as condition to grant of pardon to DG FIA has adjourned hearing of contempt case till May, 25.
A 3-member SC bench presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up the contempt of court case against DG FIA, Malik Muhammad Iqbal for hearing Wednesday.

“You have defied court’s orders. We will award punishment to you”, CJP remarked while addressing DG FIA.
Regarding dilatory tactics about return of Zafar Qureshi to investigation Justice Sair Ali said “ Zafar Qureshi was transferred within minutes and days upon days are passing and all the work has come to halt but he is not being sent back to investigation”.
Makhdoom Ali Khan counsel for DG FIA appeared in the court and informed that his client had left him on the mercy of court. DG FIA was not responsible for transferring the officers and on the other hand their posting orders had come from establishment division. Letter has been written to Prime Minister by establishment division for again assigning investigation of NICL scam to Zafar Qureshi. But reply has not been received so far and letter will be again written. Therefore some more time be allowed in this connection”, he contended.
It may be recalled that SC had expressed grave concern over withdrawal of investigation officers including Zafar Qureshi, Javed Bokhari and Hussain Asghar from the investigation into Hajj corruption and NICL corruption cases and issued contempt of court notices to DG FIA. Online
