PM, Iran’s first vice president agree on accelerating pace of work on gas pipeline, 1000 megawatt power projects

TEHRAN: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani and Iranian first Vice President Muhammad Raza Rahimi have agreed upon accelerating the pace of work on gas pipeline and 1000 megawatt power projects besides reiterating the resolve to extend new dimension to existing relations in all the fields and enhancing people to people contact.

PM and Iranian first vice president held talks here Monday without any aide. Later delegations from both sides joined the talks.
Both the leaders exchanged views on finding ways and means to enhance bilateral ties in different areas particularly economy, trade, energy and infrastructure development. The fields of security, industries, banking, agriculture, oil and gas, communication, broadcasting, culture, education and science figured in the meeting particularly.
They also reviewed the progress made on construction of ongoing gas pipeline project between Iran and Pakistan and they agreed upon ensuring timely completion of the project, import of 1000 megawatt electricity from Iran and gearing up pace of work on this project.
They also discussed regional situation particularly situation of Afghanistan and there was convergence of opinion that peace in Afghanistan was critical to peace and stability in the region.
Iranian Authorities told that they would soon inform Pakistan about Iranian decision regarding establishment of Pakistani consulate in Bandar Abbas and culture centre in Tehran.
Iranian first vice president also appreciated role played by Pakistan for peace and security in the region, saying friendly ties between the two countries would be further consolidated due to PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani visit to Iran.
