Conducive Pakistan-Indian relations hampered over Kashmir issue: Wikileaks

ISLAMABAD: Wikileaks has disclosed that PM, Yousaf Raza Gilani told America in 2009 that Pakistan wanted better, lasting relations with India; but Kashmir issue was creating hurdles.

In her correspondence with her Washington government on 17th Nov 2009, the American ambassador Anne. W. Patterson detailed the scenario of PM’s meeting with American representatives John Dairy and others, in the course of which PM, Yousaf Raza Gilani underscored the importance of maintaining relations with India; save for the thorny core issue of Kashmir, which was a speed breaker in otherwise speedy recovery of relations between two warring neighbors.
Lt. Gen (Retd) Syed Athar Ali, one of the Pakistani officials present in that meeting, impressed the fact that all were aware of India’s involvement in anti-Pakistani activities carried out in Balochistan, but American delegation failed to respond this factual allegation. Online
