Nisar for probe into accusations leveled under oath

KARACHI: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan has asked for judicial probe into the recent spate of charges leveled by former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza and later by Quaid of MQM Altaf Hussain—both under oath— so that the nation could know who were the real culprits.

In his address to the National Assembly on Monday Ch Nisar said the nation wanted to know what was going on in Karachi and what prompted the politicians to level accusations against each other’s parties under oath. “It is our common responsibility to set the things right in Karachi,” he said. The Opposition Leader said he had great regard for the Prime Minister but at the same time he wanted to convey the grievances and sufferings of the people of the flood-affected areas to the Prime Minister. It is also our collective responsibility to rectify the law and order situation in Karachi.
The city is swarming with target killers, extortionists and miscreants and instead of controlling and curbing this state of lawlessness the rulers are enjoying foreign trips, he regretted.
He expressed reservations over the outcome of the security operation in Karachi saying there were a number of demands by various circles to put Karachi under the army control but PML-N was clear in its stance and opposed handing over the city to the army. Instead of handing over the city to army, the powers of the rangers and police should be increased, he said. He expressed satisfaction over the news of the president’s angiography in London but held that it would be far better if the president were in the country at this time of crisis.
He said the Lower House was active and should raise the matter on all forums. “No one would oppose constitution of a commission on the questions which are still unanswered. Even the Interior Minister has demanded setting up a commission to investigate the charges against him leveled by the ex-home minister,” he said. Online
