13 arrested during raids on passport offices

ISLAMABAD: On the directions of Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Director General FIA, Syed Tahisn Anwar Ali Shah, undertook a campaign against the corrupt elements/officials of Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) and arrested 13 agents/touts and officials involved in irregularities and forgery.
According to a press note issued Friday, the special teams of FIA’s Zonal Offices Islamabad, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan conducted raids on RPOs all over Pakistan.
In these raids commission agents, touts and employees of Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) involved in extorting money from the general public were arrested. Special team of FIA Zonal Office Islamabad raided the RPO Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Among those arrested 5 persons were arrested including two 2 officials of RPO Rawalpindi. FIA Zonal Office Punjab conducted raids on RPOs Lahore, Mandi-Bahauddin, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Sargodha.
FIA Zonal Office Sindh conducted raid on RPO Karachi and arrested three agents/touts. The recoveries of Pakistani and foreign passports, bank challans, token slips, stamps and other documents were also made. Cases against accused are registered and investigation is being conducted. FIA will continue monitoring illegal activities and malpractices at Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) across Pakistan and daily report will be submitted to interior minister, the note further said.
