US to continue civilian assistance, finance large energy projects

ISLAMABAD: Finance minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at PM’s House here Saturday and apprised him about the communication made with the US Deputy Secretary of State, Thomas R. Nides, economic situtation of the country, resignation of governor state bank, coalition support fund and ongoing talks with IMF.

He informed that during the meeting, US Deputy Secretary of State, US had held out assurance his country would continue civilian assistance to Pakistan and extend cooperation in all the energy projects including Bhasha dam which had been initiated in Pakistan.
The Minister further briefed the Prime Minister about the discussion on Coalition Support Fund (CSF) which is the reimbursement of expenditures already incurred by the Government of Pakistan in war against terror.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the future plans explained by the Minister of Finance for the development projects and other macroeconomic variables. He asked the Minister to accelerate work on development agenda of the government in view of the enhanced availability of funds in the current fiscal year.
He said that national economy had been adversely affected in war against terrorism and despite it government was endeavouring to ensure timely completion of ongoing development projects.
Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh also informed the Prime Minister about the current fiscal developments after the successful passage of budget. Online
