ISLAMABAD: Declaring its ties with US as ‘strong,’ Pakistan on
Saturday made it clear that it would continue bilateral engagements in
the light of Parliament’s resolution adopted in a joint session in wake
of May 2 incident.
This was said by foreign office spokesperson
Samina Janjua while giving weekly press briefing here Saturday in
foreign office. She told talks were under way with US in connection
with restoration of military aid.
She went on to say
Afghanistan was an important country and peace in Afghanistan
guarantees peace in the whole world. Pakistan supports ongoing
diplomatic process in Afghanistan. Future of Afghanistan has to be
decided by people and government of Afghanistan, she added. Decision to
delist Taliban has to be taken by Afghan government, she underlined.
Pakistan will support every step towards establishment of peace in
Afghanistan.
Samina Janjua said Pakistan and India both were
facing terrorism and both the countries had agreed on resolving the
issues through dialogue. Pakistan had strongly condemned Mumbai blasts,
she held. Meeting of Indo-Pak joint working group with reference to
CBMs at line of control would begin from July 18 in New Delhi, she
pointed out.
Responding to a question she said foreign
secretary and later ministerial level talks between Pakistan and India
would take place as scheduled.
Mumbai attacks would not affect
relations between Pakistan and India, she maintained. Dates for the
talks are likely to be announced by the end of this month, she added.
She
told state minister for foreign affairs Hina Rabbani would represent
Pakistan in AASIAN conference commencing from July, 22 in Indonesia.
