KARACHI: A Larger Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by
Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry – the Chief Justice of Pakistan,
while reserving Judgment in Suo-Motu Case of the Karachi law and order
situation has sought report from CCPO Karachi on daily efforts made for
the restoration of peace in the city.
As per details, the case
No.16/2011 and Constitutional Petitions Nos. 60 & 61/2011
pertaining to law & order situation in Karachi, has directed the
Capital City Police Officer, Karachi (Mr. Saud Mirza) to furnish
certificates duly signed by the DIGs of respective Zones of Karachi on
day to day basis to the effect that all efforts shall be made by them
to control crime, and in particular they will ensure that no crime of
Bhatta or extortion of money takes place in their areas.
In
pursuance of the direction of the Court, M/s Iftikhar Tarar, DIG (CIA)
Karachi and Lt. Cdr. (R) Shoukat Ali, DIG (South) Karachi have
submitted reports in the Supreme Court of Pakistan that in their
respective areas from 24th August 2011 till today no case of Bhatta
(Extortion) or illicit collection of money occurred except one case in
South Region (FIR-236/2011 u/s 384,385 & 605-B PPC, Mithadar Police
Station).
Likewise, Mr. Imran Yaqoob Minhas, DIG (West) Karachi
has submitted report that in his area 10 cases of Bhatta collection
were reported during the period from 24-8-2011 till today, which have
been registered in the respective Police Stations and are under
investigation. Mr. Muhammad Naeem Brohkha, DIG (East) Karachi while
submitting report of his area stated that six cases of Bhatta
collection occurred, for which FIRs were registered and the same were
under investigation.
It has been further ensured by all the
DIGs that if offence of such nature or of any other nature (murder,
target killing and/or extortion) occurred in their respective areas,
the SHO of the concerned Police Station shall be suspended, posted out
