Dengue claims 5 more lives in Lahore

Dengue fever has claimed five more lives on Thursday in Lahore raising the overall death toll from the virus to 26.

According to Mayo Hospital administration, Naib Qasid Muhammad Ayub was hospitalized for last four days and doctors tried their best to save his life but due to shortage of platelets he could not survive.
The resident of Mughalpura area Hina Atique age 17 also died to dengue virus.
Patients are facing sever difficulties in getting admitted to hospitals and obtaining platelets that are necessary for treatment of the disease. This is due to the fact that the number of patients is constantly increasing in the city.
However, doctors say that not every fever turns into Dengue and it can only be ascertained after specific blood screening.
Patients having symptoms of Dengue are being admitted to the hospitals while the rest with the fever complaints are sent back home.
Dengue symptoms include lower level of blood platelets, high fever, red spots on body and vomiting.
So far more than 5,510 cases of dengue are reported in Punjab, out of which over 4,619 are from Lahore alone.
Admin rooms of most hospitals in Lahore are converted into wards to cater to the surging number of patients.
Meanwhile, a team of Sri Lankan experts arrived in Lahore to help the authorities combat the menace of dengue in Punjab. The team also includes the doctors who had play key role to overcome Dengue outbreak in Sri Lanka.
The visited various hospitals and take account of the intensity of the disease and briefed Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif regarding the treatment of the patients of the dengue fever.
Sri Lanka had suffered the Dengue fever epidemic in Year 2009, in which around 35,000 people were infected by the deadly disease. SANA
