ISLAMABAD: Chairperson PRCS Senator Nilofar Bakhtiar has said that the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) will provide health care facilities to the pregnant women of the flood affected areas besides supporting the victims in livelihood while the operation will also continue during the Eid days.
According to press release issued here on Tuesday, this was stated by PRCS Chairperson Senator Nilofar Bakhtiar while giving briefing to a group of journalists after visiting the flood affected areas of Sindh to monitor the PRCS relief operation. These women will be given special nutrition packages besides psychosocial support programme so that they should not be affected by the impact of the disasters.
The PRCS doctors and lady health workers will facilitate the pregnant women in delivery and in this regard PRCS they have been assigned the task with necessary medication.
She said that during her visit she held detailed meeting with the affected families and local authorities to get the first hand knowledge.
Nilofar said that based on the information and reports of the Red Crescent assessment teams, the PRCS will also provide mosquito kits to the affectees as cases of malaria are on the rise in the affected areas.
Nilofar said that the PRCS is focusing on the Union Council Kharyo Ghawar and Dabi and other areas of district Badin where the PRCS is supporting 8,000 families 56,000 affected people with food packs, Watsan Services, non-food items, health and care interventions. She said that the PRCS is also distributing relief items in the area of Thatta, Mithi, Tharpaker and Mirpurkhas.
In total, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society shall cater for 10,000 monsoon affected families (70,000 people) of Sindh by providing relief (food and non food items), that include hygiene kits, tarpulaine sheet, blanket and mosquito nets health and care services, water and sanitation and shelter.
The PRCS has started distribution of relief items in the affected areas and based on the initial assessments the Red Crescent has started provision of food items.
She said that based on the reports of Sindh Provincial Branch, the PRCS National Headquarters will take all steps to help the victim as due to floods and rains people have lost their live stocks and crops and there is a need to support them.
The PRCS Health Department has already keeping in view the health issues in the affected areas have deployed two Mobile Health Units consisting of doctors, para-medics, life saving medicines and ambulance service in Badin and Mirpurkhas which are start working round the clock to address the health problems of the people of the affected areas.
She said that PRCS Sindh branch under the leadership of its vice Chairman Rafique Jaffri based on the assessments is dispatching relief items to the affected districts of Mirpur Khas, Thatta and Badin and distribution are being made to the victims in close coordination with the local authorities.
To a question Nilofar said that PRCS has set up control rooms at National Headquarters, Provincial Headquarters and district Level for a smooth relief operation.
She said that PRCS is also coordinating with Partner National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to apprise them about the situation and ask for support. Online
