ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has directed
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to launch an anti-malaria
campaign in flood hit areas.
After eminent risk of spreading
malaria in the areas recently affected by floods, the prime minister
instructed the Authority to take precautionary measures and be ready
for any risk, NDMA newly appointed Spokesman Irshad Bhatti told Online
on Saturday.
“So NDMA is sending assessment teams to the areas
affected by floods,” he said, adding that the teams are consisting of
experts including UNDP, UN habitat, UNESCO, UN OCHA, IOM and others.
He
informed that 12 teams of NDMA reached to all flood hit areas in Sindh
for coordinating emergency relief operations in the localities. To a
question regarding basic necessities for the flood affectees, he said
that goods of basic necessity were provided to them and NDMA now
instructed Utility Store Corporations to provide 50,000 additional
ration packs.
Bhatti said that another 10,000 tents were
dispatched on Saturday and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority
would ensure its further utilization. Online
