UK High Commissioner awards Chevening scholarships to Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: UK High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mr. Adam Thomson, hosted a reception at the British High Commission to present certificates to 23 Pakistanis awarded with Chevening Scholarship to study in Britain in 2011-12.

While speaking to the Scholars, the UK High Commissioner, Mr. Adam Thomson said, “You should all be extremely proud for being successfully selected for the Chevening Scholarship and we welcome you to the Chevening family. Wherever you are studying in the UK, you will experience a dynamic, vibrant and multicultural society that will provide a warm welcome. I hope all of you will enjoy your time in the UK, developing your skills and knowledge that will not only be valuable for your own future development but also valuable to the future of Pakistan”.
The British Chevening scholarship Programme is a dynamic, professional development opportunity, designed to identify and support the next generation of leaders from across the globe. The Chevening Programme began in Pakistan in 1983 and has since sent over 1000 Pakistanis to study in the UK.
Pakistan remains one of the top priority countries for Chevening awards. This year the number of scholars from Pakistan has increased by almost 50% compared to last year. The selected 23 Scholars will study in the range of areas such as Governance & Democracy, Communication and Journalism, Gender Studies, Social Development, Public Administration, Law and Human Rights, Finance and Economics, Security and Counter Terrorism.
