Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has dissolved all the PAC’s special and sub-committees, criticizing the appointment of Akhter Buland Rana as the Auditor General of Pakistan.
Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly and Chairman Public
Accounts Committees Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has directed the PAC
secretariat to not convene any meeting of sub and special committees
till the meeting of PAC.
Nisar Ali khan alleged that the government was trying to render the
Public Accounts Committee ineffective. By appointing a controversial
person as an auditor general, the Prime Minister has damaged his
reputation, he said.
He has directed the PAC secretariat to keep the sub and special
committees suspended till the next meeting of PAC. He said the
institution that recovered Rs 115 billion in three years cannot be
subservient to the government’s agenda.
The committee chairman said that the government cannot use the PAC
for its interests, adding that government had given the position of
auditor general of Pakistan to a controversial figure, which clearly
shows the government intention to make PAC inactive.
Nisar also said that the accounts of the present government are
presented before the PAC for the first time and the appointment of the
auditor general was an attempt to impede the functioning of the
committee.
He said that the post of Auditor General is a constitutional post
and controversial personality has been appointed on said post to effect
the functioning of the committee because for the first time accounts of
present government are being brought before the PAC. The notification
of the dissolution of sub-committees has been issued. SANA
