KARACHI: In a bid to restore peace in Karachi, heavy contingent of
rangers conducted a targeted operation in restive Lyari area on Sunday.
The operation lasted around eight hours. According to rangers,
two torture cells and cache of arms were recovered from Lyari. Rangers
said 80 suspects have been apprehended.
More than 3,000 Rangers
participated in the operation conducted in Lyari localities of
Nayaabad, Baghdadi, Usmanabad, Chakiwara, Khadda Market, Saify Lane,
Ghas Mandi and Dhobi Ghath. They started surrounding these areas in the
early hours of Sunday. Meanwhile, residents of Lyari held a protest
against the operation. Unknown gunmen opened fire at protestors,
