PM Gilani rules out clash with judiciary, says govt respects SC decisions

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani while ruling out any clash between state institutions has said neither they have nor will allow any one to come to power through back door.

“This be kept in mind that we remained in opposition and rendered sacrifices. We have not come to power through any back door nor will allow any one to come through back door. I never said that prime minister would complete 5-year tenure. But I say that parliament will complete five years. There is not much difference between the chair of prime minister and opposition and both are inside the parliament. No one will be allowed to play negative game. Those dreaming of clash between government and judiciary will be disappointed. Opponents are looking forward to some miracle so that their turn comes in consequence of some clash”, he said this while addressing National Assembly (NA) session Monday.
He went on to say that some strange impression is prevailing in media about summoning NA session that government is going to clash with judiciary.
He made it clear that no confrontation could take place between parliament and judiciary. Parliament was a forum which gave constitution to the country and then restored it, he added Constitution making parliament knows how to respect institutions, he held. The media reports that government would table any resolution in parliament against judiciary or any other institution saddened me, he stated.
Making constitution was domain of parliament, he said adding interpreting the constitution was domain of judiciary. The judiciary interpreted it that appointment and transferring the government officers were the powers of chief executive then as to why government would come to clash, he remarked.
He said government implemented all the decisions of judiciary including NRO case, federal secretaries case, FIA and NAB related matters.
“When I was told that Supreme Court had nullified the decision of appointment of 54 federal secretaries then I said no appeal would be filed against this decision. How more respect could be given to the decisions of judiciary than this”, he added.
He said that Justice Javed Iqbal had made clear our stance about judiciary. Government not only accepted but also implemented the decisions of judiciary, he added. Suo motto action was taken against an SP in Faisalabad and what happened with this notice was known to every one, he held. “It is my claim that we have tolerated the criticism of opposition with fortitude”, he added.
A day before the decision of a false case against Benazir Bhutto had been announced and all have been acquitted, he maintained. The nation be told who instituted this case and how much money was spent on this case, he added. The grave of Benazir Bhutto was also subjected to trial, he said. I made Justice (Retd) Rana Bhagwan Das chairman central selection board and implemented his decisions, he added. I had not ordered a single promotion due to which I had to face humiliation, he added. I don’t discourage good government officers. I respected Supreme Court decisions and inducted Sohail Ahmad secretary anti narcotics”, he said.
He went on to say “ some responsible persons have said today that inciting government officers to mutiny is regrettable. . Rivals should accept personally that they are in opposition and we are in government. It is better for them to accept it. We have also rendered sacrifices in the restoration of Chief Justice of Pakistan. I also served jail term. We gave this sacrifice to strengthen judiciary”, he added. Online
