ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior, Senator A. Rehman Malik
has taken notice of recent row between Pakistan Customs and FIA
Officials and ordered a high powered Committee to look into the dispute
between Pakistan Customs and FIA Officials on the issuance of FTA
Clearance Certificates.
According to the press statement, on
the directions of Minister for Interior, a Committee has constituted
which comprise of the following; Chairman, Additional Secretary,
Ministry of Interior, Mr. Shahid Hameed, One Senior Representative of
Member Federal Board of Revenue, Member from Additional Director
General, FIA, HQ, Ch. Manzoor Ahmed and Member Chamber of Commerce and
Industries, Karachi, Vice President. The terms of reference of the
Committee will be as under; have any fake FTA Certificates been issued
by the Custom authorities? If so, how many?, how many clients got their
goods cleared on alleged fake certificates?, to determine the level of
involvement of Appraisement staff of the Customs department. Measures
to stop such malpractice in future. Remedial and re-tributary
recommendations / measures against those found responsible for
commission of crimes.
The Minister for Interior has further
been pleased to direct that the Inquiry Committee shall visit Customs
House, Karachi at once, conduct the inquiry and submit its report
