KARACHI: Sindh Qaumi Mahaz while rejecting the government’s decision
to restore Local Government Ordinance in Karachi and Hyderabad while
keeping Commissionarate System intact in the rest of province has
called for a province-wise shutter down today (Monday).
It is
pertinent to mention that Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ibad on Saturday
had promulgated an ordinance restoring the local government system in
Karachi and Hyderabad. In accordance with the Ordinance called the
Sindh Land Revenue (Amendment) Ordinance 2011 that has come into force
at once, Tando Mohammad Khan Matiari and Tando Allahyar have also been
granted the status of independent districts. The three districts with
the restoration of commissionerate system in the province, on July 7
this year, had been merged into Hyderabad division.
The
Ordinance to amend the Sindh (Repeal of the Sindh Local Government
Ordinance, 2001 and Revival of Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 1979)
(Amendment) Ordinance 2011 has been introduced to promote peace and
harmony in Sindh.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi
Press Club on Sunday, leader of the Jaey Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Safdar
Sarki condemned the administrative division of the province saying his
party would never accept it. “Pakistan People’s Party thinks Sindh is a
cake and therefore it is bent upon introducing different administrative
systems in Karachi and Hyderabad and the rest of the province and for
us this is simply unacceptable,” said Sarki.
He said Urdu
speaking people were also citizens of the province and they should
understand the conspiracy behind this division. Addressing MQM leader
Altaf Hussain, he said, “You call yourself son of Sindh. If you really
are, why you want its division?”
PPP and MQM have conspired to
divide Sindh through an ordinance and a protest would be launched
against this ‘conspiracy,’ he said.
Criticising the PPP
policies, Sarki said PPP was no longer a party of the Sindh rather it
is following the policies of Zia and Musharraf governments. In the
beginning it made tall claims to safeguard the interests and rights of
the province but later it changed its policies. Sarki expressed his
pleasure that the province’s nationalists were coming closer and they
would jointly foil any attempt to divide the province administratively. Online
