LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that it is not possible to stop the drone attacks, resulting in the death of innocent Pakistanis, merely by condemnatory resolutions and protest statements.
For this purpose, he said, it was necessary to break the net of agreements and plans against the national interest, which were made while keeping the masses in the dark, and stand as a proud and sovereign nation in the real sense.
He was addressing the PML-N workers here in the provincial metropolis on Friday. Shahbaz said that drone attacks had posed the most serious challenge to the country, however, the problem could be tackled and the Pakistani government and the nation held the key to the solution to the issue.
He said it was high time that instead of merely issuing statements against drone attacks, Pakistan should leave the assistance being received under the Kerry Lugar Bill and its terms and conditions and prove to the world that the Pakistani nation was not a purchasable commodity and would not sell the blood of its citizens for dollars.
The CM said that like safeguarding the geographical frontiers of the country, protection of life and property of the citizens was the responsibility of the government and the Army and the rulers, we would be held accountable by the masses and the history for failure in this regard.
Shahbaz said that the PML-N workers, besides promoting public awareness on this national issue, should also play their role for forcing the government to adopt a result-oriented stance against the drone attacks as the problem could be resolved not with statements but by taking decisions based on national pride and honour.
