ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan CNG Association on Friday called off its strike after successful talks with the government. All CNG stations in the Punjab, including those in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, will now reopen on Sunday (today).
The government will decide about the two-day gas load management for the CNG stations on Wednesday.
The CNG association announced an indefinite strike in the Punjab on April 13 in protest over gas loadshedding.
On the directives of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Petroleum Minister Naveed Qamar held a meeting with the representatives of All Pakistan CNG Association on Friday.
High-ranking government officials, including secretary petroleum and director general (DG) SNGPL, also attended the meeting.
Central Chairman CNG association Ghayas Abdullah Piracha told The News: “We are ready to bear the burden of load management but only according to rules and regulations”.
He said that the government should evolve a formula for all sectors to share the burden of gas load management equally.
He said the government has given assurances in this regard, saying the matter would be resolved by Wednesday.
Senior General Manager Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Rehan Nawaz said the company would thoroughly study the distribution of gas load management to all sectors. He said the industrial sector is already facing 3-day gas load management in a week while gas production in has remained static. “But we will decide about gas load management for CNG stations on Wednesday,” he said.
