Islamabad : The Judicial Commission (JC) on Saturday deferred a proposal for appointment of new judges and regularization of ad-hoc judges till April 23 owing to absence of newly appointed Law Minister Maula Bux Chandio.Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry headed the commission’s meeting,
held at Supreme Court building Saturday.Although Maula Bux made an informal participation in the meeting, but he left early as he was yet to be sworn in as Federal Law Minister.The commission was due to give its decision regarding appointment of new judges and confirmation of ad-hoc judges.According to information, the agenda will be taken up again on April 23.Under the law, any decision taken by the commission in the absence of any of its members will stand ineffective. Maula Baksh Chandio, who was nominated as the law minister after the resignation of Babar Awan, went to the Suprem Court to attend the Judicial Commission meeting without taking oath of the office. He was told that he could not attend the meeting unless he took oath.The nominated law minister was asked to take the oath before attending the meeting. The nominated minister told the media that he came to attend the judicial committee meeting but was called back for taking oath. He said that after taking oath of law minister he would return to attend the meeting.
