Bogota : Marxist FARC rebels kidnapped two Colombian army officers who were unarmed and in civilian clothes, the army has said.
"In the early morning hours of (Monday), Jose Coba Teatin and Fernando Builes Mazo were abducted by armed men who are members of FARC unit 36. The military staff were unarmed and not in uniform," the statement said yesterday.
The incident took place on a road between Toledo and Valle, in the northwestern department of Antioquia.
The army has sent troops to search for the victims, it said.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) is Latin America's largest and longest-fighting insurgency with 46 years at arms.
The FARC, with 8,000 men, has at least 19 military and police staff in its hands. It wants to swap them for insurgents that the government has jailed. PTI-AFP
