Lahore: The president of PML-N, Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that he
considers politics a sacred mission to ensure rule of 180 million
masses, which he had to fulfill.
Talking to a delegation of
PML-N overseas representatives, he reminded that he had always stressed
the government to follow Charter of Democracy (CoD) in letter and
spirit, while he himself fully followed the accord.
“We agreed
to form a coalition government with PPP but had to resign within six
weeks due to intransigence of government”, he defended.
He
criticized the system of ‘taking turns’ (as often referred by PPP
leaders), warning that only those entrusted with mandate would be
allowed to prevail, while various antics being practised would not be
able to hoodwink masses any more.
He cited the long march taken
out by PML-N to reinstate judiciary, a revolutionary issue according to
which no personal gain was attained, while many loud-mouthed ‘stalwarts’
were conspicuously absent from the movement.
He also reminded
the delegation about the economic revolution of 1990-1991, during which
there was a flux of foreign investment, with growth rate reaching 8.50
percent, which would have doubled if his government had not been
usurped. He also cited the historical 14.6 percent tax GDP, and string
of dams, roads, and highways his regime had initiated.
He said
that even India was taking economic cues from Pakistan and cited the
progressing composite dialogue with India over the core issue of Kashmir
during 1998: all of which came to a halt when his government was
dismissed.
Besides the representative delegation of Overseas
Pakistanis, the meeting was also attended by Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar,
Sheikh Qaisar, Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Hasan and Mirza Altaf. Online
