JI condemns fresh raise in electricity tariff

LAHORE: Secretary General of Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch has condemned the fresh raise of over Rs. 3 per unit in the electricity tariff and said the government was charging Goonda Tax from the helpless masses in the name of fuel adjustment.

He has appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the matter. He believed that the loss suffered by the government on account of electricity theft was being recovered from the consumers in the name of fuel adjustment, a term that had been introduced by the present government.
He was of the view that an impartial enquiry into Fuel Adjustment would reveal a much bigger scandal than the Rental power Projects. He said such excessive use of fuel was neither believable nor did the fuel prices changed to such an extent every month on which basis the tariff had been raised by more than Rs. 3 per unit. This was sheer extortion.
He said that only last month, the electricity tariff had been raised by Rs.3. 04, and with the addition of GST and E.Q. tax the per unit increase would be to the tune of Rs.4.5. Online
