LONDON: London police Commissioner Bernard Morgan has confirmed the
arrest of two persons in Pakistan in connection with murder of MQM
leader Imran Farooq.
Announcing that London police was
coordinating with Pakistani authorities on priority basis, he expressed
his strong resolve of dissuading murderers to roam freely on London
streets and roads.
It is pertinent to note that MQM leader Dr.
Imran Farooq was murdered by unknown assailants on 16th Sep 2010,
outside his London home; after which two persons were arrested at
Karachi airport on 22 August, while three were arrested from London, in
what was termed as a quantum leap in investigations.
Media
reports had claimed that those arrested from Karachi airport on 22nd
Aug, were affiliated with the student wing of MQM, and had gone to
London on student visas, and after some time they had proceeded to
Singapore, from where they proceeded to Sri-Lanka on 27th April.
On
22nd Aug they arrived at Karachi airport, where they were promptly
arrested by intelligence elements, and shifted to Islamabad.
Intelligence
sources say that the two were arrested after they intercepted and taped
a conversation between highly-placed MQM leader Hammad Siddiqui and one
Karachi-based Shamim, according to which the two assassins were to be
exterminated the moment they exited Karachi airport.
However on
27th August, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and MQM leaders had
strongly rejected the media reports and denied that anybody linked with
murder of Dr. Imran Farooq had ever been arrested at Karachi airport. Online
