Gilani, Karzai discuss regional peace at SAARC

Addu: Prime Minster Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani held a brief meeting with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai in Maldives on the sidelines of SAARC summit, discussing ways to foster bilateral ties.

Media reports quoting sources said leader of both the neighboring countries agreed upon further enhancing cooperation in regards with US-led war against terrorism.
Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani assured President Karzai Pakistan will continue its cooperation for the peace process in neighboring Afghanistan. He also promised cooperation in connection with Professor Rabbani’s assassination investigation, sources said.
Pak-Afghan border security situation and other issues of regional security featured the parley at 17th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation moot.
The Afghan president reportedly assured Prime Minister Gilani that the strategic deal between Afghanistan and India will not affect the Afghan ties with Pakistan.
Pakistan had reacted angrily to the India deal announced last month that many in Islamabad fear would increase its archenemy’s influence in Afghanistan.
