Muharram traffic arrangements discussed

Peshawar: A meeting was held here Friday with DCO Peshawar in the chair to review the traffic problems and specially provide easy flow of procession without any hurdle during the upcoming month of Muharram. Beside others SSP and SP Traffic and TOR Town-I attended.

The meeting threadbare discussed various aspects of the traffic flow particularly during Muharram and took various decisions. It was decided that a special anti-encroachment campaign shall be launched on the traditional routes where from various processions passed to ensure easy flow of procession with any blockade. The SP Traffic was asked to issue notices to the Anjuman-e-Tahiran Peshawar to get cleared the areas voluntarily within three days. In case of otherwise, the same shall be cleared through special operation to be launched by the District Administration in coordination with traffic police and Town Administration.
As per complaints, the shopkeepers at Jalil Kababi Road and Ashraf Road have made encroachments on footpath causing blockade of road as well as hardship for pedestrian passing through these roads. Taking prompt action, the DCO Peshawar constituted a team comprising of Assistant Coordination officer Peshawar, ATOR Town-I and traffic police who conducted surprise raids on these roads. Encroachments were removed on the spot and 19 shopkeepers who made these encroachments were arrested and sent to the judicial lock up.
Similarly, TMO/Price Magistrate Town-II Peshawar carried out price checking at Landay Sarak, Naguman, Mathra and Pir Bala Chowk. During checking four Nanbais, one vegetable seller, one butcher and three bakery shops were found in over charging and not maintaining proper cleanliness. A fine of Rs. 3600/- was imposed on the violators.
