Torrential rains play havoc in Sindh 88 people died, 80 percent crops destroyed

ISLAMABAD: Torrential rains and floods have perished 88 people and thousands of cattle besides destroying 80 percent of the major crops across Sindh.

This was revealed on Sunday by a report on damages in the province that were assessed by the local administration, the provincial government, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and National Disaster Management Autority (NDMA)’s team led by its Chairman Zafar Iqbal Qadir who concluded his visit to the affected areas.
According to the report the 88 people died and about ten thousands cattle are missing in various flood-hit areas of Sindh.
A spokesman of NDMA informed that in Sindh crops like cotton, sugar cane, banana, and dates were destroyed and according to the assessment 80 percent of the crops were vanished. While, four lac people in different areas were affected.
“NDMA is fully supporting the provincial authorities, PDMA and the district administration in the province,” the spokesman said.
The official said that 25 special teams of NDMA are working in the affected areas and the four lacs affected people are provided foods and items of basic necessities.
The spokesman further said that despite the damages no foreign assistance is needed at present, adding that water drying could take upto three months.
Heavy rains in Sindh and eastern Balochistan started destruction few days before Eid-ul-fitr. But the damages are high in Sindh province. Rains and floods are also feared in other provinces of the country. Online
