Army can be called in Karachi if necessary: Chandyo

HYDERABAD: Federal Minister for Law Maula Bux Chandyo has said that army can be called in Karachi if need arises for restoration of peace in the turbulent city.

He was talking to media persons at a reception held in his honour by the Sui Southern gas employees here on Sunday.
Chandyo said the recent statements by Dr Zulfiqar Mirza had created stir in politics but since he made these statements after tendering resignation from government and party offices, no disciplinary action can be taken against him.
“Zulfiqar Mirza’s statements reflect his personal opinion and the party or the provincial government have nothing to do with them,” said Chandyo. Law Minister said Supreme Court was watching even smaller issues and hopefully something good would emerge from the existing situation.
He said the PPP government believed in politics of reconciliation and was committed to seeking political solution to Karachi situation. He said terrorism can be dealt with political and state measures but the political measures are durable and long lasting.
He said in the previous PPP government too, the then Interior Minister Naseerullah Babar had called army in Karachi but that did not work. About MQM’s return, he said Federal Minister Khurshid Shah was heading the committee that was in dialogue with the MQM and the outcome of the negotiation would be made public. Online
