SC seeks Sindh govt. response over flood steps

KARACHI: Supreme Court of Pakistan Thursday setting aside a report by Sindh Irrigation Department regarding devastating floods in Sindh, declared it as unsatisfactory.

Holding the report as unsatisfactory, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked he would not even read this report, as it did not contain the solicited details.
Meantime, Sindh Government’s lawyer Muhammad Shah told the apex court that Rs.20, 000 had been pledged to each flood-hit victim.
Stressing this promise was made by President Asif Ali Zardari; the Chief Justice asked the provincial government to what steps Sindh government took in this regard.
“How did those who avoid acting upon Flood Commission report stay in their offices,” the Chief Justice Chaudhry queried.
The court, giving time by Monday for the submission of exhaustive response, adjourned hearing of Marvi Memon’s petition.  Online
