MQM was not behind May 12 massacres: Farooq Sattar

Karachi: Rejecting Wikileaks revelations on May 12 incident Mutehida Quami Movement (MQM) Thursday said that his party was the major victim of the Black Day.

Speaking to journalist at party centre “Nine-Zero”, MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar said that his party was not May 12 tragedy, instead 14 party workers had been killed and over 50 were injured during the turmoil of May 12.
He said wikileaks revelations were misleading and these accusations were conspiracy against MQM.
He said Wikileaks was not an authentic source of information and this attempt was to defame his party.
Sattar said MQM believed in free judiciary while his party had always been condemned the incident.
On occasion, Sattar displayed a video for journalists, which he believes was evidence that his party was not involved in May 12 bloodshed.
Earlier, Wikileaks on Tuesday revealed that MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar said certain MQM workers, former President Pervez Musharraf, landlords, Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and other political parties were involved in the May 12, 2007 mayhem in Karachi.
A diplomatic cable sent from Karachi to Washington on 17 May, 2007 contained details of a 40-minute phone conversation between Sattar and Charge d’ affaires US Consulate Peter Boday. During the conversation Sattar admitted that certain members of his party were involved in the May 12 incident and the party should consider unarming its militant wing.
According to the cable Sattar had informed government officials about those involved in the incident. Sattar said that slogans chanted in favour of Musharraf were not made on his recommendation and MQM Chief Altaf Hussain had dismissed his recommendation on the issue. Online
