Musharraf defends decision to join war on terror

LAHORE: Former President and Chief of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Pervez Musharraf has said that those who are criticizing ISI on the presence of Osama in Pakistan, forgot failure of CIA on 9/11 when planes were high jacked and important buildings were targeted.
While addressing APML Youth Convention here on Sunday, Pervez Musharraf said that any secret agency could be failed. It could be a failure for not tracing Bin Laden but it didn’t mean to forget all the endeavors of ISI. Pakistan’s security forces have played a pivotal role in the war against terrorism and the world should acknowledge these sacrifices.

He said that decision to participate in the war against terrorism was made in the longer interest of the country and according to circumstances existed a decade ago was right verdict in the right direction. The former president said decision to support the US and participate in the war against terrorism was the need of the hour and if Pakistan had not agreed to play a frontline role in the US-led war, the country would have had to face the combined military might of US and India.
“Pakistan didn’t accept all the American demands but only those US demands were accepted that were also in the country’s interest. America had demanded Pakistan’s airspace but Pakistan allowed only two air-bases and specific corridors to US and most importantly these bases were given only for logistics purposes as any fighter plane was not allowed to take-off from these bases and Pakistan ensure implementation on these instructions seriously”, Pervez Musharraf clarified.
He urged Pakistanis, particularly the youth, to remain united against all internal and external threats. APML Chief said, Pakistan has to face uncountable damage in the war against terrorism, however Pakistan’s future is glorious due to youth of Pakistan.  Online
