ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader in National Assembly Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan has postponed his decision to resign from the slot of Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for some weeks on the instructions his party, PML (N).
He was speaking an urgently called press conference at Punjab House here on Saturday. He said that government is trying to put obstacles in the functioning of PAC to conceal its corruption. The entire attention of the government is to prolong its regime instead of resolving problems of the people.
“The rule of Zardari is not less than any dilemma for the nation. Those who are giving support to the government are equal partners in the game of plundering”, Chaudhary Nisar added
He said that there are four important institutions including National Accountability Bureau, Supreme Court, Federal Ombudsman and Public Accounts Committee, which are responsible for accountability.
He said that the major function of Public Accounts Committee is to check the expenditure of the government. PAC has recovered Rs 115 billion during last four years which were deposited in national exchequer. The amount was recoverable since 40 years.
He said that as Chairman Public Accounts Committee he always performed his duties with utmost honesty and with any discrimination .He apprised the journalists that he picked chairmen of sub committees and special committees from all political parties keeping himself above form the party affiliation.
He said that no PAC in the past had presented complete report but current Public Accounts Committee has presented three reports on the floor of assembly. It has cleared the accounts of 40 years. Now it will present the report from 1998 to 2008. He said that parliament of the most countries have appreciated the performance of Pakistan’s PAC.
He said that government is reluctant from its accountability. He said that party leadership instructed him to resign from the post of Chairman PAC due to unnecessary interference of its working. “I don’t know whether public would laugh or cry but it is sure that Prime Minister would have to weep due to media.
Responding a question he said that PML (N) has the tally of 92 members and if time would come they will stand first of all .He confirmed the reports that property tycoon Malik Riaz met Nawaz Sharif at Murree. He went there to take a message of President Zardari. Online
