PAC expresses concern over non-initiation of action against corrupt officials of commerce ministry

ISLAMABAD: Special committee of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has expressed grave concern over non initiation of action against the officers of commerce ministry and its allied departments found involved in financial irregularities of billion of rupees despite lapse of 5 years.

Committee met here Thursday under chairperson Yasmin Khan in parliament house to review the financial irregularities detected during the financial years 2004-5 and 2006-7 in commerce ministry and its allied departments.
Committee expressed resentment over non-displaying of Pakistani goods in the exhibition took place in Johannesburg which caused loss of over Rs 1.4 million to national exchequer.
The committee described the overall performance of commerce ministry dissatisfactory saying that exporting goods worth 25 billion dollars was not a work of wonder done by commerce ministry and in fact in happened so due to hike in prices.
Committee also voiced dissatisfaction over performance of commercial Attachés working in Pakistani embassies in other countries saying no method was in place to monitor their working.
“We can not move ahead without economic stability and US has already halted aid of 800 million dollars. In the prevailing situation if we withdraw our troops from Pak-Afghan borders then what will follow as our economy is already hit by crisis.
