ISLAMABAD: Chairman senate Farooq .H. Naik has once again failed to
resolve the tangled issue of opposition leadership for senate, as his
meeting with leaders of PML-N and JUI (F) ended inconclusively.
Farooq
.H. Naik met both PML-N ‘s Ishaq Dar and JUI (F)’s Maulana Abdul
Ghafoor Haidri on Friday in order to resolve the issue, whence PML-N
has even accused him of being partial in the issue.
During the
meeting which was also attended by leader of House in senate, Nayyar
Hussain Bukhari and senator Pervez Rashid, senator Ishaq Dar was of the
view that the decision to appoint opposition leader of senate should be
made in the light of first request of PML-N, which bore signatures of
24 senators.
Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri opined that after MQM
‘s support of JUI (F) the tables were turned in JUI (F)’s favor, with
support of 25 members. Hence the chairman senate had no further
requirements for any rulings on the matter.
Sources have
informed ONLINE that chairman senate kept on pleading with both parties
to assist him resolve the thorny issue, but both leaders refused to
budge from their claims and stands, due to which the meeting ended
inconclusively.
Charging chairman Senate with partial attitude,
PML-N even refused to talk with media over the issue. Meanwhile JUI (F)
did talk with media, clamming his success after MQM’s verbal support,
which gave JUI further impetus to home its claim to opposition’s
leadership, after its stance to abide by any decison of chairman
Senate.
It is expected that chairman senate would have to seek
the consensus of government over the issue to help him arrive at a
conducive decision.
