Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was not consulted prior to issuing the notification of setting up a judicial commission for the probe of killed journalist Saleem Shahzad, a private TV channel reported.
TV channel report blamed government to delay the investigations of the deceased journalist by putting all debris on the judiciary. Meanwhile, government is of the view that it has the authority under law to appoint any judge in the commission.
Another TV Channel reported that government hasn’t even consulted Justice Saqib Nisar for making him the head of the judicial commission.
According to a private TV channel Justice Saqib Nisar said that that he would not do anything without the permission of chief justice of Pakistan.
Justice Saqib Nisar said that the appointment of judges to form a commission is at the discretion of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
Justice Nisar said that the CJP was not consulted over the formation of the commission and his approval is necessary for any judge to head or become member of a commission.
He further added that he was not consulted before being appointed as head of the commission but would be willing to lead it after the CJP’s approval.
According to the notification issued by the government, sitting Supreme Court Judge Justice Saqib Nisar khan would head the five-member commission tasked to investigate the death and kidnapping of journalist Saleem Shahzad. SANA
