Audit officials have revealed that out of 18,000 government vehicles under Federal government 14,000 are being used against the law and allocated criteria which is causing the annual loss of Rs. five billions to the National Exchequer.
This was revealed in a National Assembly Public Accounts Committee meeting held here Thursday under its Acting Chairperson Yasmeen Rahman.
Audit officials further told that 190 institutions and departments have not yet submitted the details of the vehicles.
Director General of Audit Gulzar Husnain told the committee that there is an imbalance between the salaries and benefits of public sector institutions. He said National Highway Authority (NHA), Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR), Islamabad Police and Motorway Police are getting 100 percent surplus salaries.
PAC Chairperson Yasmeen Rehman said FBR has failed to collect the set target of revenues and people who can’t collect taxes don’t have any right to get 100 percent additional salaries.
PAC expressed its concern over discriminatory attitude of government towards non- promotions of both officers and workers in the office of Auditor General of Pakistan. PAC has decided to write a letter to the PM in this regard.
Letter has recommended filling the three grade 22 posts in the auditor general office as soon as possible. PAC also stressed the PM to take special measures to ensure the independence and non-partiality of the auditor general office. SANA
