Allotment of flats to workers to be made purely on merit: Senate body

ISLAMABAD: Senator Muhammad Hamayun Khan, convener of sub committee of senate’s standing committee on labour and manpower, directed concerned officers to ensure complete transparency in procedure regarding allotment of flats to deserving workers.

Moreover, all senators expressed concerns over the slow pace of receiving applications from workers in response of the advertisement regarding allotment of new flats in Karachi, Hyderabad and Larkana. Therefore, they advised concerned authorities not only to extend the deadline till 31 July 2011 but also give advertisement again in major newspapers and Value TV channel.
The subcommittee also showed concern over the purchase of shares of Bank of Punjab (BOP) amounting Rs. about 4 billion at the time of declining the value of the shares as well as when BOP was being hit by Harris Steel Scam. Resultantly, EOBI suffered a huge loss .Similarly, the committee also recommended that SECP may be advised to take action against M/s Amtex for hiding the facts at time of launching its shares. Due to this act, heavy loss has been incurred by various investors including EOBI.
