Time ripe for change in country, Pervez Musharraf

LAHORE: The nation is disappointed at the present situation and it is time for a change in Pakistan, former president and All Pakistan Muslim League chief General (r) Pervez Musharraf said on Sunday.

He said a decision about his return and participation in the elections would be taken once the party was organised and its offices were established throughout the country. He said for the sake of Pakistan, a third political option was essential. He said that for its survival, a change in the leadership was essential.

Musharraf vowed to return to Pakistan, saying he was not afraid of anyone except Almighty God.

In his video address to a workers’ convention in Lahore, the former president said he has seen death very closely several times and was ready to face every situation. He said no one could harass or cause any harm to him. He said he was also ready to face all sorts of dangers and sacrifice his life for Pakistan and its people.

Musharraf said the local government system is essential for the development of Pakistan and to address the problems of the people at the grass root level. He said he wanted to do something for Pakistan and if he returned to power he would definitely hold the local government elections. He said he wanted that change should come in Pakistan through the All Pakistan Muslim League and not through any other mean. The former president said the younger generation wanted to play its role for change.

The former president said some people would try to scare them but they must face them with courage and determination.

Referring to strong criticism by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) quaid Nawaz Sharif, Musharraf said he had never contacted him. He said he had done everything for Nawaz and had allowed him to go to Saudi Arabia on his request despite the fact that the court had sentenced him to prison. “It is wrong that I have contacted Nawaz Sharif. I had done everything possible for him but do not expect anything good from him,” Musharraf said. agencies
