Karachi : Pakistan women cricket team Monday left for Sri Lanka to compete in Quadrangular Cup in Sri Lanka.“We have been training well and the last tournament we had played was Asian Games, where we clinched the title. So I think winning in Quadrangular is not impossible for us, provided that we play there with our level best,”
said Pakistan women cricket team skipper Sana Mir before leaving for Colombo.Pakistan would play ODI and T20 matches against host Sri Lanka, Ireland and Holland. Sana Mir added that the team is balanced and after the camp the team has also improved.“We are in good form especially after the training camp,” she said.Meanwhile, coach Mansoor Rana said that beating Sri Lanka would be a big achievement for his girls as the hosts have a top-class team.“Winning against Sri Lanka wouldn’t be easy for us. But if the girls put their best then they certainly could overpower their Sri Lankan counterparts,” Mansoor said.He added that Sri Lankan women team didn’t participated in the Asian Games so it wouldn’t be right to think that Pakistan women would have an edge over Sri Lanka as they are Asian champions. “We might have an edge over Sri Lanka if Sri Lankans had participated in Asian Games and we had beatenthem there. So being Asian Champions doesn’t give any edge to us in this tour as none of these participating teams had featured in Asian Games,” he said. However, he added being Asian Champions, Pakistan women would have a boosted morale as it is their first tour after Asian Games. Mansoor further said that this series is very important for them as it would be followed by the West Indies Tour and this would also help them in preparing a strong team for World Cup Qualifiers, which would be played next year.“This would be an important assignment for us as it would be followed by the tour of West Indies. We are also looking forward to establish a strong team for World Cup qualifiers, which will be played next year,” he added.
