LAHORE: Linking his return to Pakistan with the completion of the party reorganisation, Pervez Musharraf has urged the nation to gear up for change.
ìI have faced death a number of time and no one can deter me from coming back to the country to serve it as I am committed to doing something better for my countrymen,î said former President Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf while addressing an All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) convention on telephone from London.
Musharraf said there was a need to introduce a new political culture to end the prevailing disappointment among people, adding that the change would come through the APML only.
Coming hard on PML-N leadership, the former President said Nawaz Sharif had a history of turning against those who had favoured him. He said that he neither held any meeting with Nawaz Sharif nor would he do so in the future as it was really below his dignity to hold any dialogue with the PML-N chief. He said Nawaz Sharif had forgotten all the favours that he did to him letting him to go to Saudi Arabia and later Shahbaz Sharif to go to America and Hassan Nawaz to London for treatment.
Expressing support to the Local Government system introduced during his tenure, Musharraf vowed to restore the system after coming to power.
Continuing the PML-N bashing, the former general said its leaders preferred to visit foreign countries for treatment which could prove their lack of trust deficit in Pakistani doctors.
Musharraf said some elements were targeting him even on the basis of religion and clarified that he was a scion of a ëSyedí family and had the privilege of offering prayer inside the Holy Kaaba. He said he still had the support of religious corners.
He said APML would change the fate of people after coming to power and would provide a platform to the youth to play its role for turning Pakistan into a prosperous land. He urged the party workers to rejuvenate the party structure and organise it at all levels. He also said that the APML would be in a position for form government with a ësolo flightí but option of joining hands with ëlikemindedí was still intact.
The first telephonic address of Pervez Musharraf to his party members was held in the area of Sodiwal, near Multan Road, and was attended by a large number of party activists.
Central leadership of APML including Rashid Qureshi, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Barrister Fawad Chaudhry, Ahmed Raza Khan Kasuri, Attiqa Odho and others were present.
