Islamabad : President Asif Ali Zardari who is also Co-Chairman of ruling PPP Monday chaired PPP Core Committee meeting which reviewed present political situation, relations with coalition partners and issues of concern. It expressed satisfaction with outcome thus far of reconciliation policy and decided to continue it in larger national interest.
The meeting at the Presidency was attended by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Leader of House in Senate Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Defence Minister Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Inter Provincial Coordination Minister Raza Rabbani, Religious Affairs Minister Syed Khurshed Shah, Textile Industries Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Senators Babar Awan, Jahangir Badar, Faisal Raza Abidi, MNAs Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Ms Rukhsana Bangash, Ms Fouzia Habib, Ms Farahnaz Ispahani and spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar.
Babar later said Committee was briefed by President Zardari on his recent visit to Turkey and pre-feasibility of proposed fast goods train between two countries named after Turkish President Gul Train. Gilani briefed on his visit to Afghanistan.
Zardari said now that more than half of term of the government had been completed, PPP needs to shift gears to be able to usher into election mode when the time for it came.He said elections will be held on time as laid down in the Constitution. The performance of each PPP Minister in remaining period will be keenly watched, scrutinized to decide on issues such as awarding party tickets, party offices in future. It was decided to invite PPP Provincial Presidents in meeting to be held soon to seek advice, inputs on Party, constituency matters.Committee expressed confidence in leadership of Co-Chairman & President Zardari and in Prime Minister Gilani’s government.
