ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhummad Chaudhry
has castigated the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) for representing
Federation on the Memogate scandal and advised him to perform his duties
as enshrined in the Constitution.
During the hearing in
Sabzazar case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry questioned the
Attorney General that the court would have to inquire him that either he
was representing the Federation or not.
The Chief Justice
directed him that being a representative of the Federation it is his
responsibility to perform his legal duty assigned him under the
Constitution.
The Chief Justice said that nature of the Attorney
General’s job is sensitive and significant as he can address to the
parliament and in this regard there are examples of other countries
including India and UK.
It is to pertinent here that after the
initial hearing of Memogate scandal in the Supreme Court, the Attorney
General in his official statement stated that he is not representing the
Federation in the court but is assisting it. Online
