War against terror claimed 1500 tribal leaders: Report

A survey report has disclosed that more than hundreds and thousands of people have been killed in war against terrorism. Majority of deceased people belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkha and war ridden tribal belt. The on going war has killed innocent citizens, security personals and militants along with the countless leaders of peace committee of tribal region. These leaders are considered as government supporters and against the Taliban militants.

According to a report of Voice of America (VOA), the target killings of Tribal Lushkar leaders had started in 2003 from South Waziristan.More than 1500 tribal leaders have been killed so for as per estimate.
Report, while quoting a local journalist said that the killings of peace Lushkar leaders are taking place till now. The first target killing in Tribal area was started from Commander Nazir who initially formed a Lushkar to exit Uzbek and Tajik militants form the area.
Report says that after some time the Lushkar was blamed on spy role for government and its leader Mullah Nazir was killed. The report while quoting the analysts and journalists further said that the government has not any data or registration about these target killings. A local journalist Mukaram Khan said that the leaders of peace committee were against the militancy in the area and were struggling for peace and stability in the region, where Pakistani military had no access.Mukaram Khan claimed that these Lushkars have more responsibilities than Pakistani security agencies and government had not taken steps for their (Lashkar elders) security.
Mukaram Khan further said that despite the target killings of peace committee leaders by Taliban’s, still Tribal Lushkars are being formed against Taliban insurgents. He expressed doubts that after the withdrawal of US troops from the region in 2014, there would be a civil war between Taliban and different Lushkars and the region may turn into Afghanistan.
On the other hand secretary FATA Tariq Hayat opposed the views of local journalists and analysts said that the government not only have the data of Tribal leaders who killed but government while keeping in mind its resources took steps for the security of their families.
According to him, the government has data of these killing in which 1500 Tribal leaders or Peace Lushkars have been killed for last four years.
These leaders are not from any specific agency, though majority of them are from North Waziristan Agency. He further said that the ratio of these killings may be controlled, if Tribal leaders and members of Lushkar committee will follow the instructions and guidance of government. SANA
