Supreme Court of Pakistan has adjourned the hearing of case till December 13, against
alleged 686 illegal appointments in Port Qasim Authority (PQA). Court
has issued notices to Chairman Port Qasim Authority and Attorney General
for Pakistan, while Apex Court has directed to Chairman PQA to review
the matter of non-payment of 13 months salaries of Former Secretary of
Ministry Port and Shipping Jabbar Memon.
Two-member bench comprising of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad
Chaudhry and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the case on Friday, filed
by Former Secretary of Port and Shipping Ministry, Abdul Jabar Memon.
Jabbar Memon contended during hearing that he was separated from his
post because he disobeyed oral ordered of appointments of 686 people
given by Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Ghauri, adding that
security which was given to him, has been taken back also and he is not
being paid salaries for last 13 months. He added that he is facing many
problems of routine expenditures and other matters due to non-payment of
salaries.
Attorney General Molvi Anwar-ul-Haq said during hearing that
officials of Port Qasim Authority have earlier submitted the
explanations during last hearings in which Port Qasim Authority said
that when Jabbar Memom was ordered of appointments by minister, there
were no formulated rules of law regarding appointments in Authority.
Apex court issued notice to Attorney General and Port Qasim Authority
officials for further hearing regarding illegal appointments. SANA
