NBP EARMARKS RS. 141.5 MILLION FOR FLOOD AFFECTED PEOPLE

Karachi: : Being nation’s bank, NBP is always the first corporate entity to come forward and help the nation whenever a calamity hits its countrymen. In the recent floods of 2011, National Bank of Pakistan has opened a collection account number 696969 for Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund-2011 and contributed Rs. 25 million in that account. The account is opened in all domestic and international branches of NBP.

The Bank has earmarked Rs.50.0 Million for establishment of medical camps in almost all affected areas (Kario Ganhwar and Matli in District Badin; Drigri in District Mirpur Khas, Jaati Chwok in district Thatta; Deghan Bhurgri, Umerkot, village Baaloo ja Quba, Village Sajjan Zardari, Mureed Khan Zardari, village Lashkar Rind, Shah M. Magsi village, Mahra Khan Rustamani village and Tando Muhamamd Khan in District Benazirabad) where volunteers from NBP and People’s Doctors Forum are rendering their services day and night for the benefit of the ailing people. To treat as many patients as possible, arrangements have also been made to announce availability of medical services at the camps in remote and difficult areas. Every medical camp is treating around 1400-1700 affected persons on daily basis. NBP has also distributed eatables in the shape of ration bags, containing food items sufficient for family of 6 persons for a week. So far 10,000 bags containing ten essential items: Flour, Rice, Pulses, Sugar, Milk Powder, Cooking Oil, Tea, Water Purification Tablets, Soap and Short cakes have been distributed. Food distribution is on-going and carried out in a planned manner to benefit as many flood affectees as possible. NBP has also contributed Rs.66.5 million for tents, to provide temporary shelter to those who have lost their homes during the current devastating floods.
The Bank has earmarked Rs.141.5 Million for the relief of affected people.NBP Senior Management and all employees of the Bank are committed to stand with the nation at every time when our countrymen are in need. Mr. Qamar Hussain, President NBP has said that NBP being nation’s bank will always discharge its social responsibilities and with a view to helping affectees of the massive devastation caused by rains and floods, President NBP expressed his deep concern for the sufferings of the people who have been displaced from their homes as a result of the floods and appealed to the people of Pakistan to come forward and donate generously to help their countrymen in this hour of need.
