Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has called upon Muslim countries to work together
to build a strong Islamic intellectual base, carve out an Islamic
vision of a political and economic order and participate positively in
the shaping of the world.
He was speaking at an Iftar banquet he hosted in honour of the Muslim diplomats in Islamabad on Friday.
The Prime Minister said the Muslim Ummah should project the true
image of Islam, that of peace, tolerance and welfare-oriented faith. We
should not fall prey to the stereotyped image of being intolerant and
extremist.
He said there is a greater need for understanding and accommodation
among the followers of different religions. We have actively promoted
efforts for inter-faith dialogue and harmony and shall continue to do
so.
The Prime Minister said there is a greater need for an interactive
dialogue within our own societies to forge better understanding of
Islam’s teachings of “Husn-e-Salook”, the respect for each other’s
belief, and the respect for each other’s right to life. Pakistan
supports all initiatives aimed at building bridges of trust and
understanding. It would welcome a conference of Imams in Makkah.
He said the need for unity in our ranks and unity in our actions has
never been as great as it is today. The Muslim world is facing serious
challenges on the political, economic and social planes. This is the
time to reflect on and learn from our glorious traditions to face the
multiple challenges with confidence and self-assurance.
Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the Muslim world is endowed with immense
resources. It has tremendous trade potential, and huge investment
capital. It is seeking deeper economic integration with other regions.
He said Pakistan has developed multifaceted relationships with
Islamic countries and it is committed to continue closer cooperation to
upgrade mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields. SANA
