ISLAMABAD: Afghan MP Huma Sultani has warned that she along with
Mulla Omar and Mullah Baseer would directly go to people for peace if
her efforts for peace in Afghanistan were ignored.
In an
exclusive chat with Online on telephone, Afghan Lower House Wolesi
Jirga’s member Sultani said that she had signature of approval of
Taliban Supreme Commander Mullah Omar on the peace proposal, which is a
proof of her meeting with him, and the letter was shared with media
persons.
She said that Mullah Omar even agreed on continuation of democracy in Afghanistan without demanding power share for Taliban.
“What
is wrong with the Afghan government and the international community if
Mulla Sahib (Mulla Omar) agreed to respect human rights, women rights,
female education and democracy? Neither Mulla Baseer nor I was even
contacted to ask what Taliban wanted nor if were we serious in our
claim,” Sultani added. But she didn’t stop here.
She continued,
“Once again I assure the international community, the Afghan government
as well as the parliament and the people that Mulla Omar was ready and
serious about peace in the country. This is the second time that I give
assurances, this is an opportunity and we should avail ourselves of
it.”
Sultani said that if the government continued to ignore
her bid for peace, she along with the two others would go head with
what she termed ‘Plan B’ i.e. to appeal directly to Afghans for peace.
When
she was asked to respond to some government representatives’ demand for
proof of the said meeting, the parliamentarian reiterated that she had
met the Taliban chief near Kabul. After having some negotiations on
June 28 in a house at the outskirt of Afghanistan’s capital, Omar’s
lieutenant Mulla Atiqullah wrote the peace proposal and the Taliban
chief signed it, “which I still have and already shared with media.
What other type of proof they want,” she asked.
She said that a
move for negotiation by the Afghan government or the international
community would prove or the Afghan Reconciliation Council or High
Peace Council would reflect their sincerity in bringing peace to the
country.
To a question about the back channel contacts with
Taliban by the Afghan government, she said that the Afghan government
had not yet contacted Taliban. She claimed that Mulla Tayyab or
Mutawakil were no more part of Taliban saying, “This is how Taliban
Chief assesses the situation”. It is pertinent to mention that a couple
of days ago, Sultani had claimed that she met Mullah Omar near Kabul.
She also held a press conference in Kabul in this connection and
informed the Afghan press about her meeting. Mulla Baseer in an
interview with a Pakistani-based private TV channel had also confirmed
her meeting with Mulla Omar. Online
